A snow squall watch has been issued for Hamilton, Brantford and area, Environment Canada said.
Hamilton could see five to 15 centimetres of snow starting Thursday and continuing through the night.
"Lake effect snow bands off Lake Huron are expected to develop today and may affect areas quite far inland at times," the federal weather agency said.
The area can also expect gusty winds of 70 km/h, according to Environment Canada, causing blowing snow and poor visibility.
The weather agency said people in the area can expect "quickly changing" travel conditions.
"Travel may be hazardous. Visibility may be suddenly reduced to near zero at times," read the watch.
