Quebecers are not keen on the province’s plan to make French music more prevalent and easier to discover on streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music, a new Léger survey suggests.
A majority — 61 per cent — said French music is already easy to find, with 66 per cent saying the government should not influence music availability, according to results published Thursday.
Just over three-quarters of respondents — 76 per cent — said they would oppose the legislation if it raised subscription costs, with 65 per cent against the rules if they led streaming services to leave the Quebec market .
Léger surveyed 1,016 Quebecers last month on behalf of the Washington-based Digital Media Association (DIMA).
The trade association represents streaming giants Spotify, Apple, YouTube and Amazo
