The news has been going from bad to worse for Pablo Rodriguez and the Quebec Liberal Party over the last 10 days.
Quebec’s anticorruption police (UPAC) is now looking at the possibility of launching a criminal investigation into “allegations of wrongdoing” against the party. Such an investigation would bring the crisis to a whole new level.
For Rodriguez, this represents his first true test as leader. How’s he doing so far? I’ll get to that in a moment. First, a recap is in order .
The saga began when the dismissal of staffer Geneviève Hinse by star MNA Marwah Rizqy — without consulting the leader or anyone else in the party — became public knowledge. This prompted Rodriguez to remove Rizqy as the Liberals’ parliamentary head in the National Assembly.
