Man charged in shooting death of dog to appear in Dare Court on Dec. 18

Britton Shackelford is scheduled to appear in a Dare County courtroom on Dec. 18 after being charged with Felony Cruelty to Animals in connection with the shooting death of a dog early in November.
He was also charged with a Misdemeanor for Discharging a Firearm within 300 Yards of an Occupied Building.
According to a Dare County Sheriff’s report, Shackelford, a Wanchese resident and well-known fishing charter operator, was charged after an investigation by the Dare County Sheriff’s Office and Dare County Animal Control.
The Sheriff’s Office also reported that District Attorney Jeff Cruden was consulted about the case. According to court documents, Shackelford posted $7,
