SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - Runners and walkers braved chilly weather on the streets of downtown Springfield at the annual Turkey Trot 5K on Thanksgiving morning.

The race has become a tradition for families for the last 31 years. They say it’s a good way to get out and start the day by burning some calories ahead of all those big Thanksgiving dinners.

The Turkey Trot is the largest Thanksgiving 5K in Missouri. Proceeds from the event benefit the Springfield-Greene County Park Board Youth Recreation Scholarship Fund and the Developmental Center of the Ozarks. The Scholarship Fund allows youth who qualify for free and reduced meals to participate in Park Board programs, sports, summer camp, and other fee-based activities.
