NEWTON, Texas (KTRE) - The Newton County Sheriff’s Office shared and update and reminded East Texas drivers to slow down as a group of Buddhist monks travels through the county.
Sheriff Colton Havard shared on Wednesday evening that the monks are warmed by a fire tonight in Trout Creek as they prepare to get some rest.
According to the monks’ Facebook page , the group and their dog, Aloka, are walking from Fort Worth to Washington D.C. to “raise awareness of peace, loving kindness, and compassion across America and the world.”
Havard said they will be leaving Dee’s One Stop in the morning, heading to Merryville, Louisiana. They will travel south on SH 87 to FM 1416 and then to the state line via US 190. They will be escorted by the NCSO until daylight.
