Luke McCowan has praised Martin O’Neill after the Celtic interim manager inspired his side to a famous victory over Feyenoord in Rotterdam, saying that playing under him has been exactly as he imagined it would be when he grew up supporting the club.

McCowan says that the key to O’Neill’s success in the role has been the perfect blend of humour and gravitas that he possesses, with the 73-year-old able to command the respect of the players, but also have them in stitches when he needs to alleviate the pressure on their shoulders.

His only regret is that O’Neill isn’t a little younger so that he might have been able to carry on longer in the role, with his second spell in charge set to come to an end after Sunday’s game against Hibernian at Easter Road.
