A woman who drove her car recklessly in a Regina alley two years ago says she knew she had hit garbage bins but did not realize she had hit a person.
When Victoria Redwood returned to the alley, she found an injured woman lying on the ground. She told others the woman needed help, then left.
The injured woman was 25-year-old Lakisha George, who later died in hospital. Redwood was ultimately charged with leaving the scene of an accident where there was a death. She pleaded guilty and was sentenced earlier this month in Regina provincial court.
The sentencing decision from Judge Marylynne Beaton noted that Redwood acknowledged drinking alcohol that night, "but because she left the scene, there is no evidence that her ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol."
