British Transport Police have confirmed that a 14 year old boy tragically lost his life after being struck by a train in Nottinghamshire.

The incident occurred on the railway line in Burton Joyce, with officers responding to the scene around 7pm on Wednesday, November 26, following reports of a person hit by a train.

Despite the efforts of paramedics who also attended the scene, the young boy was sadly pronounced dead, reports Nottinghamshire Live .

East Midlands Railway released a statement on Wednesday evening. They said: "We are sad to report that a person has been hit by a train.

"This has had a big impact on trains on the Newark Castle/Derby/Crewe and Leicester/Nottingham/Lincoln/Grimsby routes."
