MESA, Ariz. — Newly released police video shows a Mesa police officer using his patrol vehicle to stop a wrong-way driver on U.S. 60 — a drastic maneuver law enforcement leaders say is becoming an increasingly common last resort to protect the public.

Mesa Police Officer Dominic Crady was on duty in the early morning hours of Nov. 23 when Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers requested assistance. A vehicle was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of the freeway, headed directly at oncoming traffic.

“I saw the headlights approaching about a mile out,” Grady said . “I knew that vehicle had to be stopped.”
