LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. — A convicted felon who fired a gun in his yard Tuesday afternoon surrendered to police after a brief standoff, authorities said.
At approximately 12:48 p.m., Liberty Lake Police officers responded to intersection of North Aladdin Road and East Mission Avenue after receiving reports that a man had discharged a firearm in his yard.
Officers established a perimeter with assistance from Spokane County Sheriff's Deputies and ordered the suspect, Mahlon Cooley, to exit his residence.
Cooley emerged carrying a pistol. When officers commanded him to drop the weapon, he complied and was detained without incident.
Police found a black semi-automatic pistol and expended shell casing outside the residence.
A search warrant revealed no additional firearms in Cooley's home.
