West Yellowhead riding to be redrawn to gain Swan Hills and Fort Assiniboine and lose Jasper

The commission is recommending that seven ridings in rural, northwest Alberta be reduced to six, adjusting Whitecourt’s riding of West Yellowhead to include Swan Hills and all of Woodlands County. Article content

“My concern isn’t specifically around our boundary; it’s more about reducing the number of seats in northern Alberta,” Whitecourt Mayor Ray Hilts said at the Nov. 24 regular meeting .

“I’m really concerned that it diminishes our voice as a northern, rural community.”
