VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Every year, the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles releases data on vehicle crashes from across the commonwealth.
While experts wait for the official release of 2025 data, Carter Killorn, CEO of Virginia Statewide Incidents, says Hampton Roads, and specifically Virginia Beach, lead the state in the most crashes.
“Specifically on the interstates, like I-64 or I-664, and all the surrounding interstates... we’ve covered some really tragic ones this year," Killorn said.
According to the DMV’s 2024 crash data, Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Hampton, and Newport News all fall within the top 10 places for the most crashes across the state.
Virginia Beach ranks the highest of the localities in our area, with more than 5200 crashes and 24 fatalities in 2024.
