WHITLEY COUNTY — Local and state officials gathered Tuesday afternoon outside the Whitley County Detention Center to break ground on what leaders describe as one of the county’s most significant undertakings in recent years — a major expansion made possible through last year’s $7.5 million state-supported grant.
The project, which is expected to be over $10 million once completed, will add 100 new beds to the facility along with additional space for recreation and educational programming. Judge Executive Pat White, Jr., who served as Master of Ceremonies, opened the event by welcoming guests and inviting Kentucky State Police Trooper Matt Ridner to deliver the afternoon prayer.
