Volunteers lined up behind the counter, and even out along the sidewalk, at Knuckle Sandwich on Thursday, all working with a single goal: making sure anyone who needed a Thanksgiving meal received one.

For Joseph, who stopped by for food, the gesture meant more than just something to eat.

“At the current moment in time, it fits me well,” he said. “I’m homeless right now, and there are people who aren’t. It’s just a good gathering.”

Since 11 a.m., Knuckle Sandwich has served free meals to anyone who walked through the door. In past years, the restaurant focused on feeding first responders, military members and hospital workers as a way to give back.

This year, owner Michael Stridacchio expanded those efforts.
