Two people were hospitalized after a head-on crash early Thursday on River Road near Cleveland Avenue in Oakdale, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Modesto division. CHP says a westbound Mercedes lost control, overcorrected, crossed the center divider and collided with another vehicle, sending both cars into an orchard where one hit a tree. Two family members in the second vehicle suffered major injuries. The Mercedes driver, identified as Navin Sharma Kumar, allegedly fled on foot but was later arrested and booked on felony DUI, felony hit-and-run, and driving with a suspended license, along with an outstanding warrant. The investigation remains ongoing.
