KAPOLEI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Veterans and their families gathered to celebrate Thanksgiving in Kapolei.
For the second year, the Thanksgiving Veterans Luncheon was held at the Daniel K. Akaka Department of Veterans Affairs Clinic.
Organizers said veterans and their families shared food, fellowship, and gratitude.
“We are doing this to make sure that all of our veterans are not at home by themselves,” said Schoen Safotu, with the VA Center for Development and Civic Engagement. “But, they get something to eat, and not only that, but hang out with other veterans.”
Safotu added that they are also trying to lower loneliness and suicide rates among veterans.
“It brings them so they can talk to somebody, and hopefully, you know, re-empower themselves, motivate them to come out and be social,” S
