HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaii may need increased taxpayer subsidies to maintain its presence in nationally televised sporting events as competition intensifies and costs rise, according to sports industry experts.
The state already supports sports with significant investments, including $350 million to replace Aloha Stadium. But experts say changes in the sports business landscape will make state subsidies even more essential.
“It’s going to be the same thing with all of sports, and it’s going to get harder and harder and harder,” said Mark Rolfing, golf commentator and sports consultant.
