Steven Cornish, 19, stabbed his girlfriend and punched her cat to death before forcing her to clean up the aftermath, Newport Crown Court heard

A teenage thug stabbed his girlfriend with an eight-inch kitchen knife and punched her cat to death.

Steven Cornish, 19, was under the influence of drugs when he unleashed the attacks "out of nowhere".

A sentencing hearing at Newport Crown Court on Thursday heard that, in May, when the victim was asleep in bed at their home in Cardiff , she was awoken by the defendant who picked up her cat and began to attack the pet, slamming it against the floor and walls.
