A murder investigation is underway in North Staffordshire following the death of a man in his 50s. Emergency services responded to an incident in a quiet cul de sac on Park Avenue, Werrington, late yesterday evening. The man was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 9pm. In response to the incident, a significant police presence has been established in the area, with a large cordon set up on nearby Park Road. Detectives have arrested five individuals from the Stoke-on-Trent area on suspicion of murder. Those arrested include two men aged 31, a 29-year-old man, a 22-year-old woman, and a boy. They are currently in custody as investigations continue. A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police stated, "Five people have been arrested following the death of a man in Stoke-on-Trent. We were called to a home on Park Avenue, Werrington, just after 9pm yesterday. Sadly, a man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed." The police have reassured the public, saying they do not believe there is a wider threat to the community. However, they have referred the incident to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) as part of standard procedure. Local residents have expressed concern over the situation. One neighbour remarked, "The police are refusing to give us any information but it seems very serious. They have not even given us any reassurance either." The neighbour also noted the heavy police presence, stating, "There were at least seven police cars and three ambulances last night and my street is cordoned off. The closed road starts in Park Road and goes down for about 20 houses but the incident happened on Park Avenue, a cul de sac off Park Road. One house has got blue tarpaulin up." Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the investigation to come forward and assist the police.
