Using mileage estimates from insurance quotes submitted in 2025, MoneySuperMarket found the average annual mileage for electric cars stands at 8,116 miles. Therefore, from April 2028, the proposed rate of 3p per mile for fully electric vehicles could amount to an extra £243 yearly charge for EV drivers.

Electric and Hybrid Pay Per Mile Calculator

Alongside the 3p per mile for fully electric cars, the pay-per-mile tax also features a 1.5p per mile charge for plug-in hybrid vehicles.
