Thousands of Scots have been sent cheques offering derisory 4p in the pound payouts after a funeral plan firm went bust.
Elizabeth Boyle, 65, broke down in tears when a meagre cheque for £130 dropped through her door after she pre-paid £3,340 for a plan to pay for her funeral.
She and sister Karen, 62, are among an estimated 5,000 Scots to be left devastated after the Safe Hands funeral plan company went into administration.
The firm, in TV adverts with English football goalie Gordon Banks, promised to cover the costs of funerals for people paying into the plan.
But the firm went bust in 2022 amid a police fraud probe, with millions of pounds from the plans believed to be invested in offshore funds.
Now administrators for the doomed firm have started paying
