Schools across a Devon local authority have been forced to shut their doors following an outbreak of scabies, a Victorian-era condition that has made an unwelcome return.
Medical professionals confirmed 12 additional cases yesterday, adding to the seven identified earlier this month. All cases have occurred within Torbay, where five schools - including two primary schools - are currently dealing with the outbreak and have closed to safeguard pupils.
Health professionals nationwide are now encouraging parents, carers and staff to contact their schools to understand what protective measures are being put in place following the spread.
