On Halloween, I voted in support of Ohio’s new bipartisan redistricting proposal. I cast this vote, even though I know this was not the congressional map Ohioans deserve. It was not a fair map as we all had hoped for, but a gerrymandered compromise, to be sure. Throughout the redistricting process, our Republican colleagues made it abundantly clear that they had no interest in transparency, upholding the Ohio Constitution, or drawing a fair map for the benefit of the people of Ohio. Sadly, our current redistricting system has been misused, abused and exploited.
Given our current situation, I continue to believe the maps we were able to secure give us a very real path to five Democratic congressional seats in Ohio. This is very much like the 12-3 map we live under right now, with Democrats
