A robber who brutally kicked and stamped a pensioner to death before nicking his box of cornflakes and cottage pie has been convicted of murder and handed a 23-year prison sentence. Peter Augustine, 59, targeted 87-year-old John Mackey after he had made a trip to his local Co-op store in Manor House, north London, on May 6.

Earlier in November, an Old Bailey jury found Augustine, 59, guilty of robbery and murder. He was also sentenced on Friday (November 28) for a theft charge that was dealt with at a magistrates’ court.
