Oak Ridge School installed a Book Nook, a vending machine that dispenses books of various genres and reading levels with student-earned tokens, in its cafeteria on November 20.
The school first learned about the machine through the Sandwich Elementary PTA and its partnership with Scholastic. Sandwich Elementary PTA Co-President Melody Way said the association found the Book Nook in a Scholastic catalog and recommended the item to Oak Ridge School administration.
The machine was purchased with quantified points through Scholastic rewards. Way said Oak Ridge School earns points through its book sales at Scholastic Book Fairs or by sending students Scholastic’s monthly flyers, and those generated points can be saved and quantified for larger purchases.
