(Bismarck, ND) — A North Dakota group is filing a petition to provide free breakfast and lunch to students. Together for School Meals submitted the petition to the Secretary of State’s office on Wednesday, November 26th. The group describes itself as “parents, teachers, farmers and advocates from every corner of the state committed to investing in North Dakota’s children and communities.” A 2024 poll commissioned by the North Dakota News Cooperative found 82 percent of respondents supported free school meals for children. They will need to collect over 31-thousand signatures in order for the measure to be placed on the ballot in 2026.
