WILSON COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - A North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper was taken to the hospital with minor injuries following a crash in Wilson County this morning.
Sergeant Smith with the Highway Patrol says the crash happened just before 3 a.m. on I-587 near Black Creek Road.
According to the Highway Patrol, a trooper was stopped in his patrol car in the left lane going eastbound while a tow truck was working to hook up a car that was involved in an earlier crash.
The patrol car’s blue lights were on when Azariah Bumham failed to move over and rear-ended the patrol car.
The patrol car went out into the median, and Bumham’s car spun out of control.
Sgt. Smith says the tow truck driver’s leg was grazed during the crash while he was outside of his vehicle but is okay.
