Before the season started there was a reasonable expectation that when the Texas Longhorns and Texas A&M Aggies closed the season against each other on Black Friday, one would be safely in the playoffs no matter what and the other would be out no matter what.

The surprise is the order. No. 3, undefeated Texas A&M is heading to the playoffs, the only question is if they will have a first-round bye or not. No. 16 Texas, meanwhile, is being slotted for something along the lines of the Gator Bowl or the Texas Bowl.

There are always huge stakes beyond that when these old rivals meet, in just their second game since it was revived last season. Texas A&M comes in as a 2 1/2-point road favorite in a game that could help salvage something of Texas' season.
