ALTO, Wis. (WBAY) - An extension cord is blamed for a fire that destroyed a large equipment shed and a tractor in Fond du Lac County Friday morning.
The property owner, Calvin Greenfield, called 911 just before 7 a.m. for the fire on Lake Maria Rd. in Alto.
The sheriff’s office says an employee wanting to warm up the tractor before starting it plugged an extension cord to the engine block heating cord.
He came back 10 minutes later and found the tractor in flames.
He tried to put the fire out himself with a fire extinguisher.
Alto, Waupun and Brandon-Fairwater fire departments responded to the call. The sheriff’s office says the fire was put out quickly when they arrived, but the 56-foot by 108-foot pole shed and John Deere 7610 were destroyed.
No one was hurt.
