CROCKETT, Texas (KLTV) - On Thursday, Crockett native and former Dallas Cowboys linebacker Eugene Lockhart hosted his annual drive‑thru turkey giveaway for the community.

“I’ve spent 29 years. Why do I do this? Pure love — the joy I get from seeing someone else’s smile,” Lockhart said.

For residents who remember the pride of seeing a small‑town kid drafted by the Cowboys, Lockhart’s annual visit is both charity and celebration. Friends, teachers and former teammates praise his humility and steady presence.

“We expected it because we raised him here. He’s been around, we know the family, and we wouldn’t expect anything different,” a longtime neighbor said.
