MARENGO TWP, MI — Passengers on a Thanksgiving Day train ride were evacuated by Amtrak officials and law enforcement agencies when the rail-bound vehicle lost engine power during severe weather conditions, Calhoun County Sheriff’s officials reported.

The Detroit-bound Amtrak train fell disabled in Marengo Township, near Marshall in Calhoun County, where deputies first responded to the scene at about 8:45 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 27, sheriff’s officials reported.

Multiple law enforcement agencies then worked together “for several hours under challenging circumstances” to evacuate 107 passengers to Marshall Public Schools buses, which transported the passengers to an Amtrak station in Battle Creek, Calhoun County sheriff’s officials reported.
