ALVARADO, Texas — About 25 people were taken into custody on Thanksgiving Day following a cockfighting investigation in Alvarado, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded around 11 a.m. on Nov. 27 to a report of possible animal cruelty and illegal cockfighting activity on Deborah Drive. When officers arrived, a large group of people scattered and attempted to flee, authorities said. Deputies secured the scene and detained approximately 25 individuals for their alleged involvement in cockfighting.
Officials said three juveniles were also located at the scene and were safely released into the care of responsible family members who were not present during the alleged offense.
