THE WOODLANDS, Texas — A Thanksgiving outing for a family in Montgomery County, Texas, nearly turned tragic after a 12-year-old girl suddenly became trapped under sand that caved in around her.
Just before 5 p.m. Thursday, crews from multiple agencies were called to the Spring Creek trail near the end of Pruitt Road. According to The Woodlands Fire Department, the girl was digging a large hole in the sand on the west bank of Panther Creek when it suddenly caved in, completely burying her.
According to a post by The Woodlands Fire Department, the girl's father immediately jumped in and managed to clear enough sand from around her head so she could breathe while help was on the way. When firefighters and medics arrived, they found the girl with only her face and head still visible.
