Construction crews will begin mobilizing this week to start work on the new community hub at the former Sears building in downtown Chatham.
Fortis Construction Group Inc. is the contractor for the project, which will bring together a new civic centre, library and museum in one location.
“The Chatham-Kent community hub project will establish a dynamic, centralized destination for civic services, community, and cultural programming, enhancing the vibrancy of the downtown,” municipal officials stated in a release Friday.
Initial activities will include setting up perimeter fencing, preparing for demolition work on the building’s exterior, and expansion of the building to the north and to the south.
