The Department for Transport (Dft) has revealed that the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) intercepted almost 700 people impersonating learner drivers in order to sit the practical driving test on their behalf last year.

With record waiting times to sit the test ranging from 22 to 24 weeks at the moment and a recent report of one learner having 128 attempts without success - at a cost of £2,944 - it's little surprise that people are getting desperate to get their licence.

Impersonating a candidate for either a theory or practical test, or hiring someone to take it on your behalf, is illegal and a serious criminal offence in the UK.
