JANESVILLE, Wis. (WMTV) - The Rotary Botanical Gardens’ annual Holiday Light Show opened Friday with 2 million lights creating displays across the grounds.

Two men have worked on the installation every day since early August, putting in 9 to 10 hours daily to prepare the display.

“It’s a lot of lights. Yeah,” said Ryan Stilen, one of the two people behind the operation along with Larry Holterman.

“We want to make sure it’s something that’s eye-catching that people actually want to look at and see,” Stilen said.

The show uses 11 and a half miles of extension cords and relies on hundreds of volunteers to operate.

“The volunteers are just the lifeblood of the gardens,” said Michelle Ryan, executive director of Rotary Botanical Gardens.
