Waco La Vega scored three third-quarter touchdowns without running a play outside the Cougars’ 45, turning a 6-6 deadlock into a 33-6 win in a Region III-4A, D2 semifinal game at Merrill Green Stadium, ending La Marque’s playoff run at 10-3.
“They made adjustments after the half and made plays,” La Marque head coach Wade Oliphant said. “That’s a great football team that’s been here before. The better team won tonight.”
The Pirates (11-2) held the Cougars to minus-9 yards of offense in the decisive third quarter and limited La Marque to just 66 total yards after intermission.
