Simon Cowell is reflecting on finding out that Liam Payne had passed away.
The former One Direction singer died at age 31 after falling off a hotel balcony in Argentina in October 2024.
“Somebody who works with me very closely came into my room,” Cowell, 66, shared with The New York Times in an interview published Saturday. “I was up in the north of England, and I could tell by the look of her face that she was upset. She said, ‘Sit down,’ and she told me. And it was like — wow.”
The former “American Idol” judge compared his reaction to how he felt when he lost his father, Eric Philip Cowell, at age 81 in 1999.
