One of college football's biggest and most intense rivalries — one that bitterly divides a football-obsessed state and once compelled a man to poison oak trees — will add a new chapter to its storied history this weekend.
With an appearance in the SEC championship game and a College Football Playoff spot within its grasp, No. 10 Alabama (No. 10 in CFP) will hit the road to take on archrival Auburn on Saturday, Nov. 29 at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn, Alabama in the latest edition of the Iron Bowl.

Since a season-opening loss to Florida State that has aged like milk, the Crimson Tide has won nine of its past 10 games. With another loss, though, Alabama would be in danger of missing the playoff for the second time in as many years under coach Kalen DeBoer, who has gone 18-6 since taking over for the legendary Nick Saban.
Beating a 5-6 Auburn team playing under an interim coach wouldn't seem to be a challenge, but in this rivalry, nothing comes easy. Though the Crimson Tide has won five straight games in the series, its past two wins at Auburn's Jordan-Hare Stadium have come by a combined five points. The Tigers have also looked improved under interim coach DJ Durkin, too, losing in overtime on the road against a top-20 Vanderbilt team and blowing out Mercer 62-17 last Saturday.
Alabama has won 13 of the past 17 games in the series. USA TODAY Sports will be providing live updates of Alabama vs. Auburn football. Follow along:

Weird things have a habit of happening in the Iron Bowl when it's played at Jordan-Hare Stadium and the Tigers have shown some fight in the two games since Hugh Freeze was fired. The Crimson Tide simply have too much talent, which will allow them to hang on for dear life in a game DeBoer desperately needs to win.
