PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Saturday at SHI Stadium brought a matchup nobody would’ve imagined at the beginning of 2025.

It was a showdown of a pair of 5-6 teams in Penn State and Rutgers, with the contest being the difference between qualifying for a bowl game or having the season come to a close.

In a game that had postseason implications on the line, it was the Nittany Lions emerging victorious 40-36.

There was scoring early and often, as the opening frame concluded with a 14-14 score after 401 yards of total offense between the two sides.

Rutgers cashed in to start via a 19-yard rushing score from tailback Antwan Raymond to open up the scoring, but tight end Andrew Rappleyea hauled in a 53-yard touchdown from quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer on a 4th-and-1 to answer for Penn State.
