Southern football won its fourth straight Bayou Classic, beating Grambling 28-27 on Saturday at the Caesars Superdome. Here are three takeaways from the game:
Resillience
For the first time since Aug. 30, Southern celebrated a win. The victory came in a game that practically embodied the challenges Southern faced this season. It trailed for the vast majority after going down 14-0 in the first period. Grambling made standout offensive plays that appeared to demoralize Southern, which had not been able to recover from haymakers. Instead of bowing out, the Jaguars played harder and smarter in big moments such as Cam’Ron McCoy’s 34-yard touchdown throw for the go-ahead score. Southern made mistakes, but continued to fight until the clock hit zero.
