Yale made its first-ever FCS playoff game memorable for multiple reasons.
The unseeded Bulldogs (9-2) erased multiple 28-point deficits and earned a 43-42 win over 15th-seeded Youngstown State (8-5) on Saturday in Youngstown, Ohio. Yale will play No. 2-seeded Montana State (10-2) at noon next Saturday at Bobcat Stadium in the second round.
Youngstown State took a 14-0 lead through one quarter and went up 21-0 early in the second. The Penguins answered Yale's first touchdown with two straight scores to take a 35-7 lead into halftime.
Yale scored the first points of the second half, but YSU found the end zone again to go up 42-14 with 7 minutes, 37 seconds left in the third quarter. The Bulldogs scored a TD about five minutes later and added a two-point conversion.
