HAMMOND, La. — A man is dead after Hammond police say he was fatally shot at a hair salon Saturday at the Town & Country Shopping Center.

Police identified the suspect as 19-year-old Kylan Green. Officers said he ran to Main's Market and "contacted the Hammond Police Department to report that he had shot someone," a release said.

The shooting happened around 5:15 p.m. on the west side of town, the department said.

Police say someone drove the victim, identified as Jermaine Stevenson Jr., 18, to North Oaks Medical Center before officers arrived, but he later died at the hospital.

Stevenson was quickly found, arrested, and booked into the Hammond Police Department Jail. He faces charges of second-degree murder and illegal discharge of weapon.

The reason for the shooting is still unknown
