OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) - Ocala residents with leftover grease from Thanksgiving got the opportunity to dispose of it responsibly.

Saturday was grease collection day over at Ocala Wetland Recharge Park.

Residents brought sealed cooking oil in a container to dispose of it properly. Pouring fats, oils and grease down the drain can clog pipes and cause sewers to overflow.

“The purpose of the grease collection day is because the city does want to continue to be environmental friendly. We do have vendors that come and collect the grease, that we are collecting today, and it is repurposed, and reused and recycled,” said Tammy Warren of Ocala Water Resources.

On the first Tuesday of every month, there will be more grease collection days from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Water Reclamation Facility Number 2
