STOCKTON, Calif. — A shooting at a banquet hall in Stockton left four people dead and ten others injured on Saturday evening, according to local authorities. The incident occurred shortly before 6 p.m. in the 1900 block of Lucile Avenue, where families had gathered for a celebration. Heather Brent, a spokesperson for the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office, described the shooting as "unfathomable." She noted that the victims ranged in age from children to adults. Brent indicated that early evidence suggests the shooting may have been targeted, although no suspects have been identified or arrested. "Our No. 1 priority right now is identifying the suspect in this incident," she said. The sheriff's office reported that several victims were hospitalized, but no updates on their conditions were available. San Joaquin County District Attorney Ron Freitas urged anyone with information about the shooter to come forward. "If you have any information as to this individual, reach out immediately. If you are this individual, turn yourself in immediately," he stated during a news conference. The shooting took place inside the banquet hall, which shares a parking lot with other businesses. Stockton, a city of approximately 320,000 residents, is located about 40 miles south of Sacramento. Mayor Christina Fugazi expressed her sorrow over the incident, saying, "Families should be together instead of at the hospital, standing next to their loved one, praying that they survive." Law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, are assisting in the investigation. California Governor Gavin Newsom has been briefed on the situation, which his office described as a "horrific shooting."
