Gilbert Public Schools joined a nationwide effort in October to celebrate before- and after-school programs during Lights On Afterschool, an annual event organized by the Afterschool Alliance.

The programs, which operate outside regular school hours, aim to provide students with opportunities to learn and grow beyond the classroom. District officials said the celebration recognizes staff for creating safe, engaging environments and applauds students who participate.

Several elementary schools hosted glow-in-the-dark parties as part of the event. Activities included students from programs such as the Very Important Kids Club, Gilbert Youth Athletics and enrichment classes.
