DINWIDDIE, Va. (WWBT) - Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal crash on I‑85 that left one person dead and three others injured.
According to police, at about 6:17 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30, an SUV heading northbound veered off the left side of the interstate, struck several trees, and caught fire.
A passenger inside the vehicle was unable to escape and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and another passenger suffered serious injuries and were airlifted to a nearby hospital.
A bystander who attempted to help the trapped passenger sustained minor burns and drove himself to a local hospital.
The crash remains under investigation.
