MARION, Ind. — Indiana State Police are investigating a death at the Marion Health Hospital .
State police say detectives started an investigation at the request of Marion City Police Department into the death of Marion Health Police Officer Ronnell J. Johnson, 25, of Marion.
Police say the preliminary investigation reveals that around 6 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, officers from ISP, Grant County Sheriff's Office, Marion City Police Department and the Marion Health Police Department responded to an emergency involving Johnson.
State police say first responders found Johnson shot.
Police say Johnson was handling a "non-department-issued/personally owned handgun, which discharged, striking him."
State police say Johnson was later pronounced dead.
