BUTTE — The play cycled on Montana Tech’s scoreboard in waning moments of daylight, telling of Tyler Kovick’s heroics long after jubilant Oredigger faithful left Bob Green Field and stadium lights took hold. Trey Yates, the recipient of Kovick’s forced end zone fumble, some 25 minutes earlier stood adjacent to the on-field “V” looking up at his first career collegiate touchdown while teammate Thomas Walkup and friends ribbed the senior Colstrip native.
“I was just like, ‘I got it, I got it,’” Yates said, reliving his game-changing fourth-quarter score.
“Just get on the ball, get on the ball as fast as possible. I just saw (the ball) sitting there and thought, ‘Got to get on this, got to get on it fast. Can’t let anyone else get on it.’”
